Which are the best residential areas in Birmingham?

I need to stay near some railway stations, as my wife will probably travel to Derby and I travel to Bristol to work!! I don't have much choice on the location as I guessed Birmingham is the best place to be as its almost centre to both of our work places and provides best train connectivity. I am willing to shell out a bit on a nice 2 bed room house.
