I bought a house with a pre-fab fireplace (metal fire box/chimney) on which a flat tv is mounted? is it safe?

Is it a fire hazzard to use the fire place? I'm told that an electrician installed the power box above the fireplace. If the wires are hitting the metal box/chimney can the tv be damaged? The tv is a LCD if that matters. The fireplace is dry wall surrounding the fire box
