What were the theories for Edgar Allan Poe's death ?

One theory is that, as was common practice at the time, Poe was cooped (like chickens) and taken from polling place to polling place (he died on election day) to vote for a specified candidate. It was typical to steal away people, especially out-of-towners, get them exceptionally drunk and have them vote as many times as was humanly possible.
